Abstract

This article discusses the extent to which Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Páramo (1955) includes contemporary Latin American narratological perspectives and social memory. The work attempts to disrupt and invert the hierarchy and traditional aesthetics of the text, as both plausible and implausible elements are incorporated, subverting the ritualized practices of former official discourses. Pedro Páramo is similar to other revolutionary works in its transgression of current writing standards and the way it approached the themes of conflict and revolution in the Latin American context.
