Abstract

This article aims to present an overview of the academic production, in the form of theses and dissertations, developed in graduate programs in Translation Studies in Brazil. The text is organized into three sections: in the introduction, the main works that discuss the theme of Sign Language Interpretation and Translation (ETILS) in Brazil are contextualized, as well as the main contributions of such studies and their respective state-of-the-art reviews carried out in the field; secondly, some contributions and theoretical expansions arising from the articulation between ETILS and Translation Studies are discussed. Results were obtained through a documentary research in which a review of the theses and dissertations defended until August 2017 in graduate programs in Translation Studies was carried out. They indicate research trends such as: interpreter training, translation of academic texts, literature translated into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), among others. In addition, we identified a few shortcomings in the ETILS field that deserve to be addressed by further academic production.
