Abstract

The presidential inaugural speech is relevant not only for expressing the political-ideological conception of the new ruler, but also for its reach and influence in a society. In view of this, this article aims to analyze the inauguration speech of Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, seeking to detect which social and/or ideological conditions would underlie it. Therefore, the theoretical-methodological framework was adopted: the work developed by van Dijk (2001, 2008), interested in the analysis of the existing connections between the materiality of discourse and social relations, in interface with the proposal of Charaudeau (2006), the from which the following analysis categories were selected: conditions of Simplicity, Credibility, Dramatization, most recurring lexical choices, meaning of words, most recurring themes, synonyms, metaphors and ethos. As for the main results found, it was possible to observe that the analyzed discourse, endowed with a strong populist bias, was based on the triad "homeland, family and religion", presenting ideals aimed at the recovery of national hope, as well as boasting and religious marks in your configuration.
