Discourse analysis of Gabriel Isaac’s poem from a Foucauldian perspective

Abstract

This article examines Gabriel Isaac’s poem about Libras from the Foucauldian perspective of the archaeology of knowledge. Although Libras and Deaf culture have gained greater visibility, they still face challenges and prejudice. Beyond its artistic dimension, the poem takes on a political role by questioning discourses that marginalize this community and highlighting its cultural richness. To understand how these representations are constructed, concepts such as archive, discursive formation, and statement are employed. The investigation seeks to identify how the poem engages with hegemonic discourses and contributes to the development of new perspectives that value sign language. The chosen approach allows for an exploration of the relationships between language, power, and knowledge, emphasizing their impact on cultural and linguistic diversity. Throughout the text, the analysis reveals how the poem not only reflects the Deaf experience but also challenges established discursive structures. Thus, the study underscores the relevance of this theoretical framework in interpreting artistic expressions that question and reframe the spaces of voice and identity within the Deaf community.
